Leighton Pierce – Artist Bio
American, b. 1954 in Rochester, NY, based in California.
Leighton Pierce has been the Dean of the School of Film/Video at CalArts since 2014. As an artist, he has worked with films, videos, sounds and installations. He is known for his hypnotic films that are conceived as sensorial experiences and for his exploration of daily life as a source of poetry. Ambient sounds play an important role of in his work, often introducing the images that shift between different focal points. One of his most well-known series is Memories of Water, meditative filmed diaries using water as their nodal point.
